Sustainability at B Living

B Living is a global leader with our innovative home deco collections. We are aware that the way we live affects the world around us. B Living believes it is our responsibility to make sustainable choices easier for you, the customer. It is therefore up to us to see how we can produce our products more sustainably. To set a good example ourselves, as a company we make choices with sustainability "on top of mind". We see gains in sustainability in reducing waste, reusing raw materials and choosing suppliers responsibly.

We reuse raw materials by recycling waste glass. This glass is ground up, re-coloured and transformed into the Hakbijl Glass Recycled collection. In our logistics, we use Euro-pallets as much as possible. These pallets are reused and rotate for years in the world of logistics. In addition, we have solar panels and all our employees get 8 extra hours of leave every year that they can use for voluntary work. We do our best: from energy efficiency to reducing water consumption and more.

Any tips? We are open to ideas to serve you even more sustainably in the future.

Sustainable solutions

As an organisation, we have taken these next steps to adopt a more sustainable and environmentally friendly policy.

Reduce waste

At B Living, we offer recycling options and reduce plastic to make a big impact. Employees and visitors have the option to separate waste and waste is recycled. Paper cups instead of plastic cups. No single-use plastic plates/cutlery. No single-use plastic straws. In consumer packaging, we avoid using plastic but opt for we cardboard (bottles, tea lights, kitchen textiles and door curtains).

In addition, B Living participates in a European Union project that rewards employees by cycling to work.

Reducing water consumption

Water is at the heart of sustainable development. We can make water resources contribute to environmental protection, economic growth and poverty reduction in various ways. To reduce water consumption, there are simple efforts such as washing towels less often, saving energy and water significantly and water-saving toilets.

Reducing energy and greenhouse gases

Energy is the biggest contributor to climate change. Reducing the share of CO2 emissions from energy is one of the main goals to house climate change in the long term. We reduce emissions by motivating employees to switch to renewable energy. For example, we have several charging points for electric cars. 100% green electricity. Most lighting in the accommodation comes from energy-saving LED bulbs. All windows are double-glazed Electricity is controlled via keycards or motion sensors. We offset part of the carbon footprint and we have solar panels on the roof!

Sustainable collections

We are increasingly developing products made from recycled materials. Our recycled glass is unique, mouth-blown, produced thoroughly in Europe in multiple colours. The various models follow trends and are also always very useful in combination with flowers.

  • By also using our door curtains ourselves, we keep insects out in an animal-friendly way.
  • By bringing cushion covers by container to our warehouse in the Netherlands and filling them locally here, we ensure minimum transport volume without having to vacuum which requires a lot of plastic.
  • Almost all our suppliers and customers (95 per cent) are companies located on the European continent. This allows us to limit the required transport kilometres. Moreover, we consciously choose companies that reward their employees responsibly.
  • Animal products are obtained in a natural and sustainable manner. This is always done with love for people and nature; we only process residual products.
